Well, I think that these two don't need to be introduced. They are worldwide celebrities and have been so since the 50's.
Of course, the world has changed since, but they did not. It seems that they both drank from the Fountain of Youth, a fabled artifact they found while searching for Gwendoline's missing father, lost in the land of a legendary butterfly. From that very moment they ceased to age and may stay unaging until the end of time.

It might seems a wonderful blessing, but it has some disadvantages.
First, it seems that their minds do not age either. This may explain the recurrent speeches of U89 regarding "the good old days", when a lady received a proper education and all that sort of things.
This has earned her the nickname of "Miss Marple" among some of the most disrespectful of the maids. If she would ever find this out, she would certainly take extreme punitive measures against them.

This fondness of the old ways of doing things has gotten U 89 into trouble at work too. Today is no longer a time of needles hidden in high heels or a place where escaping bonds is an useful ability. U 89 did not adapt well to the age of the computer, it seems. Not that she is incapable of understanding things, she just doesn't have any interest in doing so.
"Sweet" Gwendoline, her long suffering room mate, has always followed the path of her friend, but since she had no job, this has proved less of a problem to her.

They both arrived at La Conciergerie after Prof Simon made it known that he was seeking someone responsible for keeping our staff in line. In fact, U 89, while vacationing in southern France had overheard some maids in the local village's cafe conjecturing about who might become this teacher that Pr Simon was seeking. After quickly overpowering and interrogating them, she learned about the Clinique and decided to bring the packaged maids back herself to Prof Wright.
To say he was surprised and enchanted when U 89 made a job application is an understatement. He greeted her with respect due to her fame but also with some form of professional esteem which leads some to think they had known each other before. He was delighted to accept her in his staff.

As you see, the famous pair quickly adapted to the ways of La Clinique, especially the use of X latex for their wardrobe, while retainig most of their usual look at the same time.

U 89 (called U 69 during her operations in France) is in charge of internal disciplinary matters. She is also the teacher at our School for Proper Education. This school is quite special and is intended only for the Maids enlisted at La Conciergerie.
U 89 is well known among the students for being severe and unforgiving. She always chastises any deviation from her strict curriculum. To prevent any accusation of being unduly harsh, all the ordeals she imposes on the students are first tested on her friend Gwendoline.
With this, she keeps her student in line without the aid of any robot or weapon, just by wielding her riding crop.

Sweet Gwen is a charming cute lady. She is liked by everyone here, but she has something in her that just begs for punishment. And she never seems too upset at receiving it.

Since their arrival, U 89 seems to have recovered from the bouts of depression she had been subject to since leaving the MI 6. She takes great pride in her new job, so close to the old ways, and her good mood reflects on her friend Gwen.
With U 89 and Judith, our security officer, being of similar temperament, a clash was expected between them sooner or later. It still hasn't happened yet. Having to work together to keep the staff and the patients on line seems to have forged a good friendship between these two.

The only personality clash U 89 has experienced at La Conciergerie is with Melusine, our pharmacist and witch. This pretty young looking girl is much older than U89 so she should be treated with respect due her age. Furthermore, she is head of a department herself, so U 89 is not in position to order her to do anything. Yet Melusine has a very unrestrained romantic and poetic nature and seems more likely to act as her whims dictate rather than what the rules say. This unnerves U 89 every time and Melusine's habit of talking back and of never letting things go is not helping.
It seems that the oldest here are not the wisest... I hope they will overcome their differences because they are both charming people in their own style.
And I like Gwendoline very much too.
