Security Department Heads

Ani (Dayshift) & Uni (Nightshift) Puma
These twin siblings have been in charge of the Security Department since the doors of the Chainsman Institute were opened. They normally are in charge of handling paperwork, but both Ani and Uni can still be seen patrolling parts of the building, and every now and then they throw themselves into a scrape started by an unruly patient. Happy and cheerful, both twins appear to not be paying attention to what is happening around them most of the time. But Ani and Uni have run a tight ship with the Department and there hasn't been an escape from the Institute yet despite everything that's been tried. Well, actually there have been one or two incidents but their record is still excellent and superior to Security at to most institutions. We're very lucky to have them on the staff. Still they do have some odd habits, and seeing them eat machinery parts or turn their huge bodies into the forms of 7-year olds is somewhat disturbing when you see it for the first time. Please do not be too unsettled since such a reaction could mean getting you automatically committed. With the Orderlies tasked with patient control and Security in charge of handling security breaches there is some overlap of duties between the two departments. However Security is wholly in charge of handling external threats to the Institute. Yes, it's a very real danger. You will understand that many of our involuntary committal cases have similarly unbalanced friends and associates who resent our interventions. In many cases they may also be on the acquisitions list but logistical reasons may prevent simultaneous committals. Or the associates may be in need of therapy but male and as we aren't mandated to handle male patients committal is not an option. Regardless of the reason these associates often remain at large and attempt extralegal action to remove the committal cases from our care. Preventing such action from succeeding is a major responsibility of the Security Department. To date they have alway as succeeded in preventing all intruders from removing anyone from our care and almost always succeeded in subduing them. After that? After that we follow standard procedure. Female intruders who endanger the lives of both patients and staff in an attempt to free violent and unstable patients are clearly unbalanced so they are automatically committed to the Secure Ward. We have a different procedure for male intruders. One of the most important and unique tools to aid in preventing intrusion are the Spyders. No, you haven't seen them yet but you have heard them. You need a better poker face. Your expression made it quite clear you heard the scuttling in the airducts but you were too polite to mention it. Or at least waiting until you wrote your article. We keep a demo model around here to show new staff. Now where ...? Ah, there's the box.Cute little fellow, isn't he? I can tell you more if you'd like. Anyway that's enough about security technology and toys. As with orderlies it's the people not the equipment that are the real heart of the organization and I'm pleased to say we have been fortunate in this regard too. Residing Security Guards

Officer Jenny - Security Guards
Like the Nurses, all the Guards share a single name, "Jenny," and like the Nurses, Mr. Chainsman and the non-nursing staff still wonders how so many identical family members can appear in just one family. Still, there's no denying the Jenny's are both reliable and very loyal to the Chainsman Institute. Under the Pumas direction the Officer Jenny's are responsible for security in the open and closed wards, and also enforce police rules and regulations whenever a situation arises that isn't in the Orderlies or Nurse's jurisdiction. The eight sentient androids known collectively as The Sabers (perhaps better known by their subgroups the Saber Marionettes and Saber Dolls) were acquired by the Institute during the involuntary committal of one Doctor Lorelei. They attempted to interfere with Gold Team and it was necessary to utilise a specialized Electromagnetic Pulse known as a Plasma Discharge to neutralise them. This shut down the androids but despite the internal damage to the Saber Units a command decision was made by Gold Leader to retrieve them. It was originally intended that Doctor Lorelei repair them as part of a work therapy program but she proved most uncooperative. So much so that she was transferred from the Open Ward to Grimbor Ward where she remains a most obstinate resident. Fortunately our Doctor Akagi proved more than equal to the challenge despite Doctor Lorelei's insistence that even if re-activated the Sabers basic programming could not be altered. Designed to grow emotionally by bonding to a specific man once reactivated the Sabers would do everything in their power to return to him through whatever obstacles we put in their path. What was far worse from our perspective was that the masters of both the Saber Marionettes and the Saber Dolls would want Lorelei freed from the Institute. In fact the Sabers would likely take care of that before seeking out their masters as all of them had standing orders to protect her. Particularly the Marionettes as their personality modules were based on fragments of hers so they felt a strong connection. This presented us with a major problem as while the Sabers would be useful tools if we reactivated them we'd be creating powerful enemies who would tear the Institute apart trying to free Lorelei. Mr. Chainsman was on the verge of ordering them quietly scrapped but Doctor Akagi saw Doctor Lorelei's claims as a personal challenge and made it her priority to overcome their existing emotional bonding without erasing or altering the personality programs that made them more than mere robots. It was thanks to Doctor Akagi's tireless efforts that the Artificial Intelligence Modules (aka the Virgin Circuits) of all eight Sabers have been successfully reprogrammed and are now online and eager to serve the Institute. According to Doctor Akagi the key to accomplishing this were the Tamasaburou and Baikou Sabers. Being older models they possess far less sophisticated AIs and while physically proficient they have minimal emotional capability. They had however imprinted because of their Virgin Circuit's core programming but rather than bonding to a specific person these two were compelled to serve and protect the Japonese Nation. Realising that this fact proved the bonding could be directed to collective entities rather than necessarily focusing on individuals she set about changing their focus from their former nation to the Chainsman Institute. While not an easy task she succeeded and set about the more difficult task of changing the bonding of the remaining more sophisticated Marionettes and Dolls. This proved to be difficult but not beyond Doctor Akagi's talents and she recently brought them all online after completing the field testing the new security service software she was planning to install in the Sabers. While very effective at both combat and social interaction the Sabers lacked programming relevant to the needs of members of our Security Department. After successfully testing the software on a less sophisticated android (which proved most effective at subduing the recent escape attempt by one of our most notorious patients) it was installed and the Sabers reactivated. As a final test all eight Sabers were taken to Doctor Lorelei's room to see if there would be any adverse reactions. While their memories of her were unimpaired with their new perspective they see that the Institute is here to help those with problems (such as Doctor Lorelei's crippling guilt complex) and felt no compulsion to free her despite her impassioned pleas for help. Quite the contrary, they fully intend to see she remains in the Institute until she has completed her therapy and is officially released and will happily foil any attempt escape she makes for her own good. With this verified Doctor Akagi installed shielding to prevent plasma discharges shorting out their Virgin Circuits and returned the EMP pulser to the Vault. There have been no problems with the Sabers and they are rapidly making themselves essential to the Security Department though the Acquisition Department also intends to use their services from time to time. Security Mecha - The Sabers
Meet the Sabers ![]()
Lime
Cheerful and childlike she has quickly become the Jennies mascot. Despite appearances Lime possesses the most physical strength of any of the Sabers.![]()
Cherry
A superb tactician who has found and corrected several security flaws her skills will likely also prove useful should she be loaned to the Acquisition Division to plan operations![]()
Bloodberry
Designed primarily for combat she grows restless patrolling inside the Institute and prefers to roam out grounds searching for intruders. She has taken to racing the Rovers to any intruders when there's target acquisition.![]()
Tamasaburou and Baikou
Possessing less emotional range than the other Sabers they prefer to lurk menacingly on the roof watching for threats to seek out and neutralise. Because of a few minor security over-reactions it is now impossible to have take out delivered to the Institute and fortunate that we have an excellent cafeteria. Unlike the other Sabers they possess the capability to copy and run human brain engrams thus overwriting their basic personalities and creating a simulation of the person copied. However we have as yet found no practical application for this capability.![]()
Tiger
Like her fellow former Sabers Dolls Panther and Lynx she has become popular with those few former Delmos who miss the late Neena Hagen. Fortunately she is far less inclined to use her whip on them so her fanclub has been deemed a harmless staff diversion.![]()
Panther
Primarily a combat unit she is often see patrolling with Bloodberry They have also been observed drinking together and bemoaning the lack of decent adversaries. Dr. Akagi is currently at a loss to explain how sake can affect an android.![]()
Lynx
Another tactician though more aggressive than Cherry she has taken to studying the potential patient data generated by the Whites and regularly presents Gold Team with reports on available involuntary patients and the best methods of acquisition. As yet none of these have been acted upon but that may change in the near future.
Other Security Mecha That concludes the tour of the Security Department. Perhaps you would like to meet our other Support Staff. The other Departments available for touring are the Orderlies, Maintenance and Administrative Personnel and the Computer & Technical Support Department ![]()
Naomi Armitage
Last of the now decommissioned Third Android Series she possesses speed and strength comparable to a Saber despite her more organic nature. While she bleeds when injured she can override all pain signals as distractions and complete her assigned mission despite extensive biological damage thanks to her superstructure and brain being robotic.Perhaps you'd like to interview a member of our involuntary patient acquisition team? They work closely with Security upon arrival with new patients. Would you like to see Security's Most Wanted list? Our medical staff agree we've got a great support staff to aid them in their work. Would you like to meet the folks who rely on the support staff? Would you like to meet our Physical Trainers and see the Gym? Perhaps you'd like a word with our Training Staff, they keep Security and the other the Support Staff up to date on our latest innovations You might like to see our student internship program, some of them may try working in this department Would you like to drop by the recreational lounge where we hold our staff parties Or would you rather hear the scoop on our advances in humane capture technology Alternately some visitors have been fascinated by the specifics of our patient restraint and control equipment Others have wanted to hear all about our use of robotics Then there are those who were more interested in the human interest angle of our friendly staff rivalries If you insist we could take a look at our underground high security storage facility Of course you can always return to the Open Wards Finally there's one more option. The place most everyone wants to see.
Do you still want to see the Grimbor Ward?
If you really want you can return to the Lobby
Or we can end the tour
