The China Doll
A newly developed Mask and Gag combination the China Doll is currently
undergoing clinical testing so it is not as yet in use outside of these
trials. However the iniital reports are so promising that, barring unforseen
difficulties, I fully expect to see them added to our standard restraint
equipment roster in the coming months.
The name derives from its appearance which is not only decorative but
practical. In the first picture you see a side view of the China Doll in its
default "shut" mode. By touching the Red Cheek Spots the mask's other options
can be explored. In brief these are; Once on either side the eyes open, both
spots together the mouth opens, one spot then the other both eyes and mouth
open. Repeating the same sequence reverses the effect.
When the China Doll's eyes are opened while the patient's eyes are not
actually exposed the patient can now see through the artificial eyes in the
mask. The patient's face remains still wholly covered by the mask thus
serving as an eye protector. An improvement over the traditional mask where
the covering over a patient's eyes had to unzipped or unsnapped should they
require sight thus exposing them to the possibility of self inflicted injury.
Opening the mouth does not enable the patient to talk for reasons that
will be explained momentarily, instead it serves other purposes. From the
mask's seamless appearance it might be assumed that the prime purpose is to
enable the patient to breathe thus the mouth must remain open. While a
natural assumtion it is a false one. Whether open or closed the China Doll's
wearer can breathe just as easily.
From what has been said so far it might seem that the China Doll is a
slight improvement over the hood and gag combinations we currently use but
nothing too spectacular. So it is time to detail the many unique features of
the China Doll.
The first is that you will notice it does not appear to possess any
visible means of securing it to the wearer. Unlike the standard strap on or
lace on mask which can sometimes be loosened and dislodged by a persistent and
determined patient the China Doll cannot be removed by its wearer no matter
how hard they try.
Despite extreme efforts over many hours our Clincal Trial subject failed to loosen the China Doll's grip
The China Doll attaches itself to the wearer using our "Skin Adhesion
Lining" of which I can say no more until our patents are approved. While it
doesn't matter who places the China Doll on the recipient and it is possible
for the patient to don it themselves once in place it "reads" the wearer's
skin and bonds to it. As with Beta Latex this bonding is non allegenic but
unlike Beta Latex it can be removed simply by grasping the mask's edges and
pulling. When force is registered the China Doll releases its grip on the
wearer's skin (after a momentary delay to retract the gag tube) and slides
right off.
However this release does not occur if the mask registers that the hands
pulling on it possess the same DNA pattern as its current wearer. In that
case the Skin Adhesion effect remains in full force and the mask will not come
loose. Quite simply the wearer is the only person in the world who cannot
remove the China Doll. So even if a patient has her arms free she will be
unable to take it off. Something which could not be guaranteed by traditional
masks and gags. Once removed a China Doll can be easily replaced on the same
person but prior to its use on a different patient it must be both sterilized
for hygenic reasons and have the Lining's "Skin Memory" reset so it can bond
to the new wearer.
When the mouth is closed the China Doll might seem to offer little
capacity for the patient to breathe. In fact the opposite is true. Patients
wearing a China Doll can not only breathe freely they are incapable of
regurgitation so unlike traditional gags there is absolutely no risk of the
patient choking on vomitus while wearing one.
The key to this is the gag tube you see extending from the mouth of the
China Doll. Once in place the tube expands as it grows to fit its wearer.
Filling the mouth the tubing grows to extend halfway down the esophagus. As
it does this a tube resembling an endotracheal tube extends into the lungs to
supply oxygen thus intubating the patient. With the tubing now lining the
esophagus the patient becomes incapable of regurgitation and vomiting. The
vocal chords are also immobilized which prevents the patient from speaking.
In fact they are no longer even capable of moaning and unable to taste or
swallow. However this is no impedement to feeding the patient. Quite the
contrary, in fact the China Doll removes any need to forcefeed the patient.
The gag tube of the China Doll contains a reservoir of a fluid we call
Nectar. Nectar is formulated to meet both the patients nutritional and fluid
intake needs. A purely Nectar diet is sufficent to sustain a patient in
excellent health indefinitely. Nectar is secreted by the tubing lining the
esophageal tract thus passing directly to the stomach. Since the patient
cannot prevent the tubing secreting its nectar force feeding becomes an
unnecessary chore. Once in regular use this feature will prove a boon when
dealing with uncooperative patients
While its nutritional benefits had been proven in laboratory testing
Nectar has been discovered to possess one unanticipated property during our
clinical trials. It has been discovered that subsisting on a completely
Nectar diet results in a greatly enhanced flexibility developing in the
wearer.
Clinical Trial subject demonstrating her maximum flexibilty
While wearing standard mask and gag arrangement After Five Days Wearing a China Doll
The enhanced flexibilty seems to require a minimum of twenty-four hours
exposure to Nectar to manifest. The effect is not permanent and requires
regular ingestion of Nectar to maintain it. After removal of a China doll
the effect seems to also fade within twenty-four hours. The day after last
ingesting Nectar a patient will have returned to their normal flexibility.
However for future refernce it must be noted that after a patient's first day
wearing a China Doll and until the day after they last wear one more stringent
restraint precautions may need to be taken to counteract their enhanced
flexibility.
While the expansion and extension of the China Doll's gag tube might seem
to complicate its removal it is actually a simple procedure. The memory
material of the gag tube returns to its original state as soon as the "Skin
Adhesion" bond to the face deactivates. So after a momentary delay for
retraction the gag tube can be removed from the mouth easily as the China Doll
is pulled off.
Whether the China Doll's mouth is open or closed the tubing draws air
into the mouth cavity and delivers it to the lungs just as easily. Again
this is a design feature whose details must remain classified until our
patents are approved.
Since the China Doll's mouth does not need to be opened to allow the
patient to either breathe or eat the question arises why include the
feature? The reasons are twofold.
First during the design phase it was felt other patients could panic if
they saw a sleeper wearing a China Doll with no visible means of breathing.
It will also enable medical staff to reassure patients required to wear one
that breathing will not be a problem by showing them a China Doll with an
open mouth. Visual aids are often more effective than explanation.
The second reason is to enable the staff to refill the gag tube's
supply of Nectar. While tests show this would probably last a week with our
policy of erring on the side of caution this will be done every three days
once the China Dolls are in general use.
The China Ball
Like many craftsmen Dr. Sebastian, one of the China Doll's designers,
was unwilling to put aside the project just because it worked. To the true
craftsman there is always room for improvement and innovation and by tinkering
with the principles and basic design of the China Doll he produced the smaller
variation he named the China Ball
Roughly the size and shape of a golfball with a small tube protuding (so
you know to insert that side first) once placed inside the mouth the China
Ball expands to fill it. This causes the patient's mouth to gape open so
part of the China Ball's surface can be glimpsed.
Brande served as an involuntary China Ball
test subject during one of her residency periods
While this is happening the China Ball's tube grows and extends in the
same fashion as the China Doll's gag tube. It serves the same respiratory and
nutritional functions and in many ways the China Ball resembles a China Doll
stripped down to the gag tube. So while lacking the optional blindfold
capability it does not disguise the wearer's facial features and upon
occasion it may be useful for therapeutic purposes to have the patient easily
identifiable.
Like the China Doll after having filled the mouth it cannot be dislodged
and can only be removed when someone grasps the protuding surface with thumb
and forefinger and squeezes. This causes it to snap back to its original
size and shape so it can be easily removed. Like the China Doll the wearer is
the only one who cannot trigger the reversal effect.
That concludes our China Doll and derivative technology demonstration.
