When the picture was taken Melanie was being placed in the Terrarium in the
Lobby courtesy of Suchiro Tanaka. It was either a vacation for her or she was
the victim of an extended practical joke depending on whom you ask.
Originally believed to be a pet like the other fairies in the Terrarrium she
has recently revealed an innate ability to grow to human size. During this
transformation her wings disappear but her ears retain their "elfin"
appearance so she can't quite pass for human. In this form she has recently
begun assisting Suichiro in his duties as leader of Gold Team.
Little is known of Melanie's personal history prior to encountering Suchiro
as she has shown no wish to discuss it. Equally vague is the exact nature of
her relationship with him. While they're usually referred to as friends her
mercurial temperment means she can go from calling him "Suichi-chan" to "That
****ing son of a *****" in the same conversation but despite many opportunities
to leave him even when at her angriest she has never taken advantage of them.
If this indicates a "Better the Devil you know" attitude or a deep bond with
him she refuses to say.
Suichiro considers himself her protector, taking the view that her inquisitive
and reckless nature means she is much more vulnerable in both forms than she
believes. Melanie doesn't mind this attitude but has been known to quibble
with his ideas about what constitutes protecting her. He doesn't consider her
helpless. We know Suichiro respects and admires her insights and intuition.
Both of which have aided him on several occasions.
Melanie is known to have an active sense of humour which combined with her
reckless nature will make her another one to watch come Prank Day.
