Here we have one of our few self committed patients who chose to waive
the right to anonimity. Admittedly in her case there was little point as
everyone knew her from before her breakdown.
Yes, this Joy was indeed a member of our staff until fairly recently but
it was not the stress of working here that lead her to check in as a patient.
As I have said we have excellent morale and like all the staff she enjoyed
her work. Her problems stem from an outside source. A persistent and
dangerous intruder who still plagues the Institute by the name of Zirk!
While we have enacted new security measures to prevent his gaining entry
to the Institute in the future some of his earlier incursions succeeded with
unpleasant consequences. During the last of these attempts he was able to
gain egress to Grimbor Ward. Spotting him breaking into an occupied group
room Nurse Joy heroically chose to protect the patients, who would have
helpless because of their restraints, by drawing his attention.
Yes, it did take some effort to distract Zirk from a whole room full of
victims. Well it's hardly a secret and well known staff gossip so there's no
point in hiding it. She did a striptease then fled down the corridor in her
underwear with the deviant in hot pursuit. Unfortunately she underestimated
his speed and was knocked down by his flying platform. Stunned and helpless
to fight or flee she experienced a traumatising minute of Zirk savouring her
fear as he slowly moved towards her.
Fortunately just as he was about to slime her a squad of Jennys arrived.
Well no, they didn't exactly scare him off. Actually he decided they looked
more appetising and went after them instead. The Jennys were a bit more
successful than Joy in fleeing him and kept him occupied long enough for an
organised counterattack to drive him from the building.
Unfortunately while she had escaped his physical attack the psychological
trauma was another matter. Unable to perform her duties and suffering from
both stress and paranoia she took her sisters' advice and arranged a leave of
absence to get the therapy she needed. As she knew and trusted her fellow
staff members it was inevitable she choose this institution to help her heal.
Her therapists report she's making excellent progress, thanks in part to the
support and encouragement she's receiving from everyone.
Which demonstrates clearer than anything I could say that we truly are a
caring instituion.
