Head Trainer Ms. Doria Ruridou outside the Charma Memorial Physical Fitness Annex
There's an old saying, "Healthy Body, Healthy Mind". It's wrong of course but there is an element of truth to it. As a rule people feel better about themselves when they're in good physical condition and building self esteem is one of our tasks. Add to that the fact that while many of our patients arrive in excellent physical condition it would deteriorate if we didn't take steps. Struggling against restraints alone is insufficient to maintain balanced muscle tone as all effort is concentrated into certain areas of the body so we realised we had to take steps. The end result was the construction of the Charma Memorial Physical Fitness Annex. Or, as it's more commonly known, the Gym. Primarily designed for patient usage it's not unknown for the staff to use its facilities. Or even to assist one another in the use of the exercise machines. Why just a few minutes ago I saw a trio of off duty Jennies taking a Blue and a Black Delmo inside in a wonderful display of interdepartmental co-operation. Before we proceed to the Gym it would be a good idea to first meet the Staff responsible for overseeing the training programs. It's no exaggeration to say they know the place inside out.

Head Physical Trainer - Ms. Doria Ruridou

Ms. Ruridou is one of our rehabilitation success stories. She actually first entered the Institute as an involuntary committal patient.
A medal winning and renowned champion in the sport of Panzer Power Suit Combat Ms. Ruridou's family had become concerned about the strenuous and extreme training program she was putting her younger sister Doris through.
Having only just acquired her personal Panzer before leaving for boarding school Doris Ruridou was a complete novice in the sport she had rashly chosen to pursue. While her parents expected her to immediately fail spectacularly and move on to other hobbies Ms. Ruridou decided to intervene. For personal reasons Ms. Ruridou decided to make her sister a serious contender in the Junior High Panzer Division. So she joined her sister and began to personally supervising Doris's training. While initially enthusiastic about the idea of becoming a champion Doris soon became disenchanted with the severity of her older sister's training regime.
Being firmly committed to the philosophy of "What does not kill us only makes us stronger" Ms. Ruridou applied it to Panzer training. Doris soon objected to the daily injuries, almost total exhaustion and the lack of any sort of social life but was unable to quit the program. Taking advantage of her sister's dietary problems Ms. Ruridou arranged to be the sole local supplier of the specialised diet Doris needed. If she didn't train she didn't eat.
This situation continued for several months before it was discovered by the head of the family. Ordered to cancel Doris's training Ms. Ruridou uncharacteristically refused. Being a perfectionist she wasn't about to end the task prematurely. Suspecting either sadistic tendencies and/or an obsession with victory at all costs on Ms. Ruridou's part the family contacted the Institute and (admittedly with some difficulty) Ms. Ruridou was committed to
Grimbor Ward. It was while reviewing Ms. Ruridou's case that Dr. Quintanna discovered that while her methods could be considered somewhat sadistic it hadn't been merely pointless abuse as she had succeeeded in transforming her sister from an laughing stock and an embarrassment ...
... to a serious contender capable of the "Form Up" technique that many veteran Panzers never master.
Given the security concerns inherent in all aspects of a patient's life within the Institute and the danger so many of them present it was thought that Ms. Ruridou's program of "Exercism" (the term was invented by Dr. Quinzelle and derives from her tongue in cheek combining of "Exercise" and "Sadism") could produce the physical training techniques we required. The situation was explained to Ms. Ruridou as was the fact that voluntarily participation in a work therapy program would show rehabilitation was proceeding and likely shorten her own stay. She agreed and developed an excellent initial pilot program which was successfully implemented under her direction. Impressed by her work and taking the success factor into consideration Dr. Quinzelle reassessed Ms. Ruridou's case and not long afterwards she was declared fit to re-enter society and the committal order revoked. While she was free to leave before she did Ms. Ruridou was offered a newly created post, Head Trainer, a position responsible for our patient's Physical Therapy needs. After due consideration and learning her sister had advanced to the point of triumphing and training on her own she accepted the position and soon became an invaluable member of the Institute staff. Originally she was the sole permanent trainer aided by a variety of staff on temporary loan from other departments but she now recently got the full time assistants she had been requesting. Would you like to meet them? If you're intrigued by our Exercise Facility step this way and I'll hand the tour over to Ms. Ruridou If you're already toured the Gym or just aren't interested there are a few other options to explore.
You could meet our dedicated medical staff Or the Support Staff who keep the Institute running smoothly Don't forget our Training Staff, they test and keep everyone up to date on our latest innovations Perhaps you'd like to interview a member of our involuntary patient acquisition team Would you like to drop by the recreational lounge where we hold our staff parties There's always the Open Ward I could give you the details on our advances in humane capture technology I've found some visitors are interested by the specifics of our patient restraint and control equipment Others have been fascinated by our use of robotics Then there are those who were more interested in the human interest angle of our friendly staff rivalries You might like to see our student internship program If you insist we could take a look at our underground high security storage facility
Or return to the Lobby
Finally there's one more option. The place most everyone wants to see.
