Institute Historical Records - Prior to Patient's Escape
It's not often I disagree with the Chairman but I don't think this
patient belongs in the Isolation Ward, let alone the Solitary Ward. She has
no history of violence and doesn't fit our criteria of a dangerous patient so
she shouldn't been in here. But the Chairman made an exception in her case,
overruled my recommendation of a return to the Grimbor Ward and ordered
her confined to a Solitary Room. So here she is until I can change his mind.
No, it's not from any malice on his part and I can understand his logic
even if I think he's overreacting. You see Brande is unique in being the only
patient to have escaped the Chainsman Institute twice! Escapes are rare but
to have escaped from the Grimbor Ward twice should have been impossible. We
still don't know how she managed it. She refuses to answer and while we
tried telepathic inquiry Dr. Frost informs us she knows a mind probe blocking
technique so unless Security finds some new leads we may never have an answer.
It's because of this that upon Gold Team's recent recapture of Brande
the Chairman ordered her confined to this Ward since there had never been an
escape from the Isolation Ward because of the extreme security precautions we
employ. He felt it would be sure to hold her while we considered her case and
the appropriate treatment program. As I said I thought it would be more
appropriate to house her in the Grimbor Ward while the Board deliberated but
I was overruled. This has sparked something of a deadlock within the Board
and until it's resolved she will remain in this Ward. Since she seems to
have stirred some extreme feelings the issue is unlikely to be resolved
anytime soon.
Perhaps that is somewhat unfair to the patient but no one forced her to
escape and it's her actions that have provoked a split in the Board so she did
bring the impasse on herself. The good news is we're still able to work
together without any problems on all the other issues facing us. There's just
something about the idea of a multiple escapee that provokes some of us.
I think I've said enough about this case. Probably too much in hindsight.
